Amazon says Rochester is one of the Top 20 Most Romantic Cities in the U.S.

Amazon used sales of the following to come up with the list:

1. Romance novels and relationship books

2. Romantic comedy movies

3. Barry White albums and songs

4. Sexual wellness products

Amazon certainly does have a lot of information about consumers, but it’s clear this is very limited criteria. Amazon doesn’t have access to flower, chocolate, restaurant and greeting card data. (I know it sells a lot of stuff, but not everything!)

What do you think? Does Rochester deserve top billing in the romance department?

  1. Well, let’s see: Like Venice, we have a canal, though the bridges that cross it may not cause one to sigh with the same kind of wistfulness. Other than that, I’m not quite sure how we rated as a “romantic” city, unless of course you count the romance for Midtown Plaza as it was back in its heyday.

Hey, why not? There are lots of romantic places to take your date, both winter and summer. Just takes some imagination.

I do think Rochester is Romantic! The beach, wonderful Parks, the River, lots of cool Restaurants…candy shops & bakery’s…
    What’s not to Love??

  4. I think with our parks, wonderful neighborhoods and thriving, diverse restaurant scene that Rochester is plenty romantic. The piers, though they need work are especially inspiring.

  5. “Sexual wellness products…” You could argue that this list is proof of an intensely lonely city as easily as an intensely romantic one.

Seriously? We’re about as romantic as newark, nj, or east Rochester. Pultneyville or canadaigua I can see, not Rochester. Notice that there were no Hawaiian cities.

  7. Hey, now. East Rochester is romantic. We have a fountain.
