Links of the Day:

– Time Warner Cable is experiencing an massive outage in the Rochester area. There are no numbers, but the issue appears to be widespread.

I was struck by how many people were complaining about not having television. I didn’t care about that! How do I get online? Fortunately, my phone is also a hotspot, but I have to be careful to not to eat too much data.

A new survey indicates I’m probably in the minority. More people would rather give up social networking than television. Obviously, people use the Internet for more than Facebook or Twitter, but the study shows people are still very attached to their TVs.

– Sex trafficking exists in Rochester. The Democrat and Chronicle looks at the case of Thomas Cramer, described as a “400-pound pimp.”

– The state trooper at the center of a prostitution probe has been in trouble before. He was suspended for hitting a woman while off duty.

– Buffalo area nuns are furious at the Vatican crackdown on American nuns.

– Governor Andrew Cuomo’s cool reception to campaign finance reform could be an indication he has an eye on the White House.

  1. It’s not just SD…most HD channels are out as well. The go-to place for actual interaction with TWC these days is their Twitter helpdesk, @twcablehelp. They don’t have a lot of hard info about what’s causing the outage, but at least they’re reachable.

With all the money we pay cable, it feels that cable should be fixed immediately. Not an issue of who wants to watch TV or not. It should be there. Or fixed as soon as possible.

I’m in Myrtle Beach SC and TWC is having an internet and cable outage here right now. It started around 4:45pm and calling in wont help because “all circuits are busy” so I’m left to use my phone (no hotspots, just mobile web). Guess my body shouldn’t have decided to be sick today.

  4. I wouldn’t have cared about TV except that there was a soccer game I needed to watch… I could have watched it online if I had internet but that would have been on a 17″ screen instead of 42″.

  5. What bother’s me about the Rochester area is that there is no competition for Time Warner when it comes to internet service. Had Verizon FIOS in Pittsburgh before moving here, and never had issues.

P.S. I work at home so Internet is waaaaay more of a priority over TV.

I need them both, and landline phones and payphones too.
