This month has been marked by incidents of domestic violence the likes of which we have not seen in Rochester in recent history – maybe ever.

A teenager is charged with murdering his father and two brothers by setting the family house on fire.

Sheriff’s investigators say a Perinton woman killed her father, 10-year-old daughter and herself.

There is so much we don’t know about both situations. Friends and police, however, have indicated there were signs the alleged perpetrators were troubled and distraught.

In our search for answers, we must talk about mental health care and domestic violence prevention. But can anyone predict such horrific violence? Can rational minds conclude a loved one is capable of such acts?

We will all be struggling to understand in the coming months.
